While Dulquer Salmaan‘s impending Kollywood debut has been in the news for quite some time, the actor will be making his first step in that direction by playing a Tamil Brahmin in his next Mollywood venture, ‘Pattam Pole’.

Dulquer, who has two upcoming releases — ABCD: American-Born Confused Desi and Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi— will start shooting for cinematographer-turned-director Azhagappan’s first all-out commercial venture in June.

“It’s an entertaining love story about a girl and a Tamil Brahmin boy who has settled in Kerala. It’s a story that would hit it off, especially with the present generation,” says Azhagappan, adding that the team is scheduled to start filming in Thanjavur district in Tamil Nadu.

The film, scripted by Gireesh Kumar, will also mark the debut of Malavika Mohanan, daughter of Bollywood cinematographer K U Mohanan of Don and Talaash fame.

“Malavika is pursuing a cinematography course and had tried her hand at modelling. She would be apt for this role,” says Azhagappan. In addition to Dulquer and Malavika, Anoop Menon reportedly plays a prominent role and is paired with Archana Kavi in the film. Kollywood actor Ilavarasu, Nandu and Maniyanpilla Raju are also part of the cast.

Azhagappan had previously helmed Salute, a movie made for the Indian Army. He tells us that he had often favoured handling camera for films with serious subjects and themes such as Ore Kadal, Arike and Ozhimuri.

“However, for my directorial venture, I wanted to do an all-out commercial film that I want people to see. Pattam Pole offered such a story that a lot of people can relate to,” he beams.Views (4463)
